Kathak dance is one of the Indian classical dances originating from northern India. The word Kathak is derived from the word india ie katha which means "story art". From its original nature is the expression of self-indulgence to the Hindu gods. Kathak has grown into royal palaces. In the 11th and 12th centuries, during the mogul era in India the dance performances of Kathak had moved from the temple to the palaces of Mogul. Kathak dance art was also intertwined with Turkish and Persian dance styles. During this era the technique of chakkar (pusing) was introduced from the Sufi Dance of Turkey.
