Background

Art and Culture Centre, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (PKKSSAAS) was completed in 1978. Initially, PKKSSAAS only known as the Great Hall of the UPM and placed under the administration of General Services Division, Office of the Registrar. The main function of the Great Hall of UPM is to provide facilities for all university events such as Convocation, examination halls, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, badminton competition between Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTA) and student association activities.

PKKSSAAS was inaugurated on 25 April 1996 by His Majesty Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj, son of the late Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah, the Sultan of Selangor. On top of concerns for the arts and culture of his homeland, then the University has taken the initiative to perpetuate PKKSSAAS with his name.

PKKSSAAS serves as a cultural and arts center that excels in contributing to human development, especially to the campus and the country generally. In addition, PKKSSAAS is an entity that is accounted as a medium for the continuity of any event organized by the university and the program in particular. Among the main functions of PKKSSAAS are:

  • Manage the booking of infrastructure of Great Hall and Experimental Theatre Hall for all official and unofficial events and activities in the university and outside of the university,
  • Manage booking service for culture and arts group
  • Designing, implementing and monitoring cultural and artistic activities in accordance with the University's UPM to      become a superior center of culture and arts;
  • Provide consult experts and guidance in the field of culture and arts.
