Selangor State Anti-Drugs Campaign

PKKSSAAS, UPM  -  Saturday, 23 February 2019 Selangor State Level of National Anti-Drug launching ceremony. The Anti-Drug Campaign was officiated by Yang Amat Berhormat Tuan Amirudin Shari, Dato 'Menteri Besar Selangor.

He said 15 locations were identified as high-risk areas (KBT) of drug abuse in Selangor including Semenyih, Kajang, Ampang and Batu 9, Cheras. Other than that, Sungai Besar, Rawang, Selayang, Gombak, Pandan Indah, Bangi, Serdang, Pandamaran, Bandar Klang and Petaling Jaya Selatan are also identified as risky areas.

According to him, the state government has allocated RM1 million in excess of the 2019 budget in a bid to curb and address drug abuse issues in the state.

He was speaking at the Selangor State Level Anti-Drug Months Ceremony at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) today.

According to statistics from AADK the number of abuse and drug addicts in Selangor is 14,556 making it the fourth highest state in the country.

However, compared with the number in Selangor, the ratio of 0.23% makes Selangor at 13th in Malaysia.

"But I do not take this issue lightly and problems of drug abuse in the country as far as today is a big threat to the country".

"It involves various layers of society including age, sex, education and socio-economic status, and this shows that every individual is potentially involved with drug abuse," he said.

A pilot project also needs to be implemented to clean the KBT in total to be an example of the implementation of other whitening drug control programs.

"A holistic and inclusive approach should be emphasized in intensifying the participation of communities and the collaboration of various parties in forming active and empowered communities to create a safe and secure local environment quality," he said.
